Statistics: Total Number of licensed Accommodation Establishments (Hotels) in 2017, by Ghana Tourism Authority

Hospitality and tourism plays an important role in Ghana's economy, having a significant impact on the economy each year. Although, Tourism is ranked as the 4th highest foreign exchange earner, the country has been described as an "expensive" destination with most of the  tourism revenue coming from international travels.

The Ghana Tourism Authority has released the 2017 hotel directory containing the list of all formal accommodation establishments in the country.
In all, there are 3,247 licensed formal accommodation establishments as at 31st December 2017.  This is categorized into star-rated, guest houses and budget hotels.

According to the directory, there are 706 star-rated Hotels, 167 Guest Houses, 2,374 Budget hotels, 51,182 Hotels Rooms, 54,254 Hotel beds and 838 Hotel conference Rooms.

Greater Accra Region is the only region to boast of any five star hotel in the country. These are the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Labadi Beach Hotel and Movenpick Hotel. The three northern regions (Upper East, Upper West and Northern Region) however, have only two star hotel as the highest grade in the regions with Upper West having the lowest number of hotels in the country.
